If you haven’t read this, then read it before reading what I wrote.
So Google has announced that they’re building an operating system for netbooks. GCOS will be fast, lightweight, secure and Google style minimalistic (open-source, too). This is totally awesome—but not for everybody. Windows and Microsoft are, now, in bad shape. Yet, maybe they are working on a similar OS ? Tiny Windows ? Actually, we know nothing really important about GCOS, we hope it’s going to be free, and if it’s free, then the Windows+Netbooks entity is going deeply down.
The other thing to think about with this huge announcement is Android. Wasn’t I saying that Android could become a great operating system for netbooks ? I totally was. And wasn’t I asking who will win the netbook OS battle ? I think the answer is now clear. However, there is a slightly important detail that you should think about. Google says that GCOS will be perfect for people who use mainly the Web. So probably, the Desktop of this OS will be Chrome. No desktop image, no, no, chrome. There will be only one application, Chrome. Now, Android, if adapted to netbooks can change the game.
Finally we should just wait. We need more informations Google !
